Michael DonnerMeet Michael Donner

Friends & Neighbors,

It has been a pleasure and honor to serve as your MOFD District 4 Director since 2018.  Outside of my 31-year career as a Firefighter and First Responder, this has been the most rewarding experience in serving my community.  As current Board President, my focus has been on making our communities safer from fire and natural disaster, supporting the men and women who serve and protect us, and maintaining financial stability.  Collectively, we have been successful on all fronts by:

  • Hiring a new Fire Marshal and increasing Prevention staff.
  • Implementing a stricter fire code and $500,000 grant program for home hardening.
  • Increased our reserve funds from 17% to roughly 46% and addressed the unfunded liabilities by increasing contributions to the OPEB and Pension Trust Funds.
  • Unanimously approving a 3 year contract with the Fire Chief, to continue our shared vision for fire safety.
  • Actively working with the Orinda Mayor and Council on strategies to effectively utilize Measure R Funds for Fire prevention/safety programs.

As a career firefighter and community volunteer, my fire experience, commitment to public service and safety speaks for itself; 31 years as a Oakland Fire Fighter, thousands of hours in community service including organizations like OBA, Orinda School District’s Safety Committee, Random Acts of Kindness, Seniors Around Town, LMYA, working with Fire Agencies on early detection of cancer for firefighters, and mentoring young men and women interested a career in fire service.

Priorities:

  • Enhance Fire Prevention and Safety Programs
  • Hold EBRPD, EBMUD, & PG&E accountable to maintain their property
  • Continue to ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability
  • Provide expertise in Fire Operations
  • Support dedicated ambulance staffing in Orinda
  • Remain focused on construction of New Station 41
  • Responsive and accessible to all

I have been endorsed by MOFD Firefighters, Fire Chief’s from Northern California and other career first responders. These are the experts in fire prevention, fuel mitigation, firefighting and other aspects of the fire service. A full list of my endorsements will be available on my website and Facebook page.

I live my life dedicated to serving the public, I believe that volunteering is the ultimate exercise in Democracy.  You vote in elections, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.  I respectfully ask for your vote.
